What's wrong with me??

Okay... I've been feeling pretty stupid lately. Two incidents in particular were kind of bothering me. This kind of goes along with my insecurities about English and the absurdities that come out of my mouth (and my keyboard) every once in a while.

Last week we had Activities Day and we were going to do a Heart Attack for some of the older people in our ward. So the girls were cutting out hearts and making all this cute decoration. My friend Melanie was picking up some of the left over paper to decorate her girls valentine's boxes.

Valentine's boxes?? What the heck is a valentine's box?? Tatyana is in 1st Grade and I've never made one for her for kindergarten or preschool. Was I supposed to make one for her when she was in kindergarten or preschool? Am I supposed to make one for her now?

When Melanie asked me if I wanted any paper for my kids' boxes, I said: "No". Note to everyone: When I answer a question really fast avoiding talking about it at all is because I have no idea of what everybody else is saying. Instead of acting like a normal person and asking what a valentine's box was, I just totally blew her off and kept doing what I was doing... So one more time I apologize to all of you when I sounded rude and totally ignored your question or acted like I didn't care for what you were saying.

Anyway... I didn't have to make a box for Tatyana, they were going to make it in school. But I had to make one for Caleb, and when I found out about it I almost panicked. I had no idea of what I was going to use at all. I even thought that maybe they would sell them in stores, but I couldn't find one. You might be thinking:"Why didn't you ask Roman?" Well... for some reason, I thought he wouldn't know. When it comes to the kids stuff, he really doesn't know anything.

Caleb and I made a valentine's box out of an old shoe box that we had at home. We wrapped it with a stripped blue wrapping paper and we decorated it with hearts. I took pictures of it but I can't post them right now because the cable that I use to download the pictures is broken. So the pictures are going to have to wait... Caleb was so excited, that it really didn't matter if it was completely wrong (if there really is a right way to make a valentine's box).

The second incident just happened today. I went to the gym and I gave my keys to the girl at the door and asked for an exercise band. I have to leave my keys with her until I bring the band back. When I was ready to leave, I handed her the band and she asked me: "How do your keys look like?"

I didn't know how to answer this question. There is really nothing special about my keys. I don't have any cool key chain or anything else that would distinguish my keys from anyone else's keys. The only thing that I could say was: "It has a Smith's card hooked to it." HA HA HA HA.

No, seriously... How do you answer this question? You guys have to help me, so next time when someone asks me that I can answer it and don't feel like a complete idiot.

One more time I apologize for my actions!! I really don't mean to be rude...

I don't think anything is wrong with you. :) I think you are very normal. I rarely ask if I don't know what people are talking about, and English is my native language. I just nod my head and pretend I get it. Then I usually go home and look it up on the internet or ask my husband.

The Valentine's Box sounds like it turned out the way it was supposed to, which I have to say is very impressive considering you had no idea what it was.

As far as distinguishing keys, I have a few ideas. One is that different types of cars have different types of keys. Some types have the name or symbol on the key (i.e. - Honda has their trademark "H" on their keys), so you could say the type if it does. Some also have keyless entry, so if you have one of those you could say that and describe the shape of it. You could also say something like, it only has two keys on the ring, or it has tons of keys. That's about all I can think of to distinguish keys. I have never been asked that before, so I had to really think about that. :)

In my experience...a valentine's box is a shoe box with a hole cut in the lid and then decorated in little kid style. So sounds like yours is perfect! I haven't thought about a valentine's box in a long time, but now that I think of it I'm sure that is what the man in front of me at the store the other day was trying to come up with. He was carrying a bunch of tissue paper and paper hearts and a box and kept asking this woman "don't they just sell these somewhere?" You're not alone! :-)

Nem se preocupe, Ro. Quando o Chris começar a ir para escolinha, eu vou fazer pior. Não sem nem o que eles fazem na escola aqui. Estou com medo até. ;o)

Roberta, you make me laugh. Don't feel bad. Mari's Valentines box sounded just like Caleb's just pink. I used the old shoebox too.

There is nothing wrong with you Roberta. You should not be insecure about your English either, you are awesome. I tell that to Rosemary too. I have been speaking english my whole life and even I can't speak properly at times. Like on Sunday when I spoke, I said, "spake"- duh? As far as the valentine's boxes, usually the teachers make something or provide the kids with a box that they bring home. I have never had to provide one on my own- I guess all teachers are different.
On the key's- I can't believe the girl at the gym would even ask that. Don't they put them in a box or something and let you pick them out? You need to buy a cool keychain just for the gym- one that stands out-I vote for a keychain that says "Miller light" or "Budwieser" or some beer brand. Ha Ha
